For some time now I have been concerned. I love this nation and I am watching some things take place that I believe are not only alarming, but dangerous. In recent months I have found myself more and more angry and frustrated, often even yelling at the television as I watched one elected official after another supposedly speak for what Americans want. They do not speak for me.
Now across the nation we are seeing groups of people beginning to band together with similar hearts and concerns. I believe it is a growing army of people who are not willing to see our nation sold out or destroyed through the ambitions and misguided plans of elected officials. I have watched them and have cheered them on and yet still within me I have found a continued concern rising. While I totally agreed with them about protesting the current policies of our government, I slowly began to realize there is a higher standard in my life.
Since the day I surrendered my life to Jesus Christ, I have not been my own. My values, my standards, my goals should all be based on His will, not mine. In the midst of protesting against the policies of one party or the other, I am beginning to realize it is not about the elephant or the donkey: it is all about the Lamb.
Across our nation the Church must wake up. We have been asleep in the light. Others have called us bigots and hate mongers for standing up for what we believe in and so we backed off that all might have an equal voice in this country. Now legislation is being passed to silence our voices permanently. Now it has become a hate crime to stand for Biblical values of traditional marriage and family. It is not about an equal voice anymore, it is about radical opposition to the voice of believers.
This past week we attended a round table of Church and government leaders from across our nation who shared with us what is happening secretly in government and commerce while we focus on the tip of the iceberg. A clear plan has been conceived to silence the voice of believers in this nation and it is methodically being played out. I have never been a conspiracy theorists nor do I believe I am one now, but my eyes are being opened to what is happening. Those of us who follow Christ must begin to uphold His standard in this country. We must speak not just against things, but must declare boldly what God is for!
The Church is too often viewed as negative, hate-mongers because we only speak out against sin and perversion. We must remain strong in our Biblical values, but we must also speak to people in practical terms. Jesus reached out in love to sinners when He walked the earth and yet held a strong stand against sin. We must once again become salt and light in our nation. We must let people know what God is for. God is pro marriage and pro-family. We must begin speaking life and vision for what God has designed.
Jesus spoke in stories about every day situations that taught eternal truths. We often speak in confusing Christianese that leave people alienated and confused. The Great Commission says "go and do" not "stand and pontificate". It is time to get out of our Christian ghettos where we all speak the same language and have the same beliefs and go out into the world speaking love and life. I pray this blog will be a rallying point where we can join together as believers and encourage one another to once again be salt and light, standing firmly on God's Word while walking in love.
